Food as medicine has always been an important part of treating health issues in humans and it is no different with canines. The recipes can assist in treating dry skin, in freshening stale breath and even in warding off fleas.

Salmon Treats
These treats have the wonderful flavour of salmon that dogs enjoy and also contain omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids to assist with dry skin.

8 oz Salmon
1/2 cup Fresh parsley
2 Eggs
2 tbsp Flaxseed Oil
3 cups Whole-wheat flour

1. Place all ingredients in food processor and blend to a stiff dough.
2. Place on floured counter and roll out, about 1/2 inch/ 1 cm thick. Cut out shapes with desired cookie cutter.
3. Bake at Gas 5 for 30 minutes, or until cookies are crisp.


Breath Cookies
A great treat that your dog will love eating and which will bring the benefit of fresher breath. The parsley is rich in chlorophyll, a natural breath freshener and the mint aids digestion.

3 tbsp Vegetable Oil
1 Egg
1/2 cup Fresh Mint
1/2 cup Fresh Parsley
2/3 cup milk
2 cups Brown Rice Flour

1. Combine all and which together.
2. Blend in flour slowly and beat until stiff dough is formed.
3. Place on floured counter and roll out, about 1/2 inch/ 1 cm thick. Cut out shapes with desired cookie cutter.
4. Bake at Gas 4 for 30 minutes, or until cookies are crisp.


Anti Flea Cookies
THese biscuit are flavoured with beef stock and fresh garlic which contains allicin, an antibiotic and anti fungal. It has also been reported to be natural flea preventikon method.

2 cups Whole-wheat flour
1 cup Oatmel
2 cloves Garlic
2 tbsp Olive oil
1 cup Beef stock

1. Blend wheat flour, oatmeal and garlic together.
2. Add oil and beef stock to form a stiff dough.
3. Place on floured counter and roll out, about 1/2 inch/ 1 cm thick. Cut out shapes with desired cookie cutter.
4. Bake at Gas 5 for 25 minutes, or until cookies are crisp.
